NDS Director-General Saraj explained that some Taliban prisoners, involved in large-scale attacks against civilian targets and linked to international terrorist groups, pose a threat to the national security of Afghanistan and its allies if released.

Office of the National Security Council has sought Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission’s input on the list of prisoners and the release mechanism, approving for implementation some of AIHRC’s recommendations on the rights of the victims of Taliban attacks.

National Security Advisor said that the rights of victims – Afghan or otherwise – are important to Afghanistan. He invited the ambassadors to engage the ONSC if they have questions on this matter.
